If you would like to support the Red Door snack bag program, we need volunteers to provide the requested food items AND volunteer drivers to deliver the bags to the Red Door downtown. Please notify Karen at the beginning of the month of the date AND site that you will support, so we know in advance if we have all the volunteers we need.
The Red Door asks for individual plastic bags containing each of the following items:
NOTE: The chips and cookies must be individually packaged. They do NOT want large bags of these items to be opened and portioned into separate zip lock bags for inclusion. They also will not accept homemade cookies.
The minimum donation amount is 250, so we will require 25 volunteers to provide 10 bags each containing the items listed above TWICE per month. If we are unable to field a full 25 volunteers at any given time, we will ask those who volunteered for that particular session to make a few additional bags based on what we still need. This is an all-volunteer program, so we ask that your donation be considered a charitable contribution to the program.
PLEASE NOTE: We have purchased plastic bags to hold the snacks. They are available at both church sites. Currently, there is a plastic container in place at STM at the exterior doors leading to the parish office that contains bags rolled in groups of 10.
By 10:00 a.m. on the 3rd Monday there will be a box containing bags rolled in groups of 10 in place, clearly marked, on the table against the wall inside the SJC church hall near the steps going up to the main entrance of the church. You can access this box before or after any weekday or weekend masses. At the same time, a weatherproof plastic tub will be in place at the outside entrance to the kitchen (left of the hall entrance doors), also clearly marked, containing plastic bags rolled in groups of 10. They will be accessible at any time to anyone who can't get into the church until delivery day.
Again, the bags are rolled in groups of 10, and we would ask you to take only what you need for the current month, so we don't deplete our supply too quickly. If you are unable to pick up bags from either church site, volunteers may re-use CLEAN grocery-store-size shopping bags.
When placing your items into the plastic bag, DO NOT TIE the bag handles--simply fold the handles around the bag, so it is "wrapped." When you arrive at the respective church drop site, please deliver your bags directly to the driver's car (STM--at the Oxford Drive circle entrance; SJC--in the parking lot). At STM, please check in with the driver, and at SJC please check in with me, so we can keep count and know when everyone has dropped off their items.
Please email Karen at [email protected] or Ann at [email protected] with questions or to volunteer.
We thank you so much for your positive response to this program. We couldn't do this without you!
